In the case of damage to the sciatic nerve or nerves connected to it, we will experience numbness, muscular weakness or pain in various parts of the buttocks, the legs and the feet, or we even may lose control over the leg or parts of it. We suddenly may be unable to make certain movements with a foot.
This typically will happen to only one side of the body, as these nerves are symmetrical on both sides of the body and it hardly ever happens that such a pair of nerves is damaged in the same way at the same time.
The symptoms can vary in the affected regions and in the severity – from slight numbness to almost total loss of feeling and from slight discomfort to excruciating pain. These variations give the doctor clear indications exactly which nerves are affected in exactly which degree.
