Living with sciatica pain

Experience shows: once you have got it the first time, it most likely will reoccur sooner or later. There is no treatment to get rid of it once and for all, there is no surgery to create a perfect spinal column, and even to find and cure the underlying causes is an undertaking with questionable results.

So most likely after you have got it the first time you will have to live with episodes of sciatica pain for the rest of your life. There are things you can do against it though.

First of all avoid lifting heavy loads while turning your vertebral column at the same time.

Second: avoid unnecessary stressing of your sciatic nerve i.e. by sitting on your purse in the back pocket of your pants.

Third: frequent light exercises.

And fourth: start immediate therapy as soon as the next episode starts. The sooner you fight irritation and pain from your sciatic nerve, the better. Apply hot or cold packs, tiger balm or essential peppermint oil immediately, take NSAIDs or Kratom without hesitation.

And finally keep in mind: there is no proof whatsoever that resting will help. In really very bad cases of excruciating pain or partial loss of muscle control you might spent a single day in bed - but a second day in bed will bring no improvement at all.

So: don’t rest. Rather do what is described above.
